Let me just start out by saying that timing is everything. I said, "Timing is everything." For you creeping on this blog pretending like you aren't a reader, "TIMING... IS... EVERYTHING!" I started out writing this post out of frustration and decided not to post it; however, the topic is necessary and now is the time. So, let's start the blog.
*Imagine theme music playing.....c'mon, use your imagination and play along*
We are gathered here today to talk about this thing called peace. See, sometimes, you have to protect it by distancing yourself from the Eeyore party invites. If you don't know who Eeyore is, you may be too young to feel this post, but I welcome you to grab a seat at this table anyway. "They" say that you attract what you give off. Apparently my vibes were giving off pity party invitations but I certainly didn't send out any invites.
Now listen, I don't care if you're throwing the party or attending the party, we all get down sometimes; however, it's all in how you react to your problems. Is your glass half empty or half full? There's power in your mindset. You are what you believe. Start looking at your problems as blessings in disguise and I promise things will get better.
Now, I know it's easier said than done. I'm not perfect but the first step is to TRY! Three letters, say it with me, "TRY!" Folks, stop being selfish and inviting your strong friends to your pity party; you're wearing them down. We (Yes, I included myself in the strong friend category) would love to help but people become a combination of their surroundings. Sometimes we have to protect our own peace. Too many pity parties and we'll start throwing our own. I personally don't have time to throw those types of parties. So I changed my interactions with Eeyore to get different results....take notes!
I have this one particular family member who LOVES to call me with negative news. For the sake of this story, I'll call her Nancy. One day I decided to reply to everything negative Nancy said with, "Oh wow! That's a blessing." She was taken aback at first and said, "Are you listening? You don't understand what I'm going through. I could've died." I had to chuckle when she said that but then I had to remind her that we were talking on the phone. That means she's alive....that's a blessing, right? She might've rolled her eyes on the other end of the receiver but eventually the conversations started changing. They switched from "whoa is me" to "whoa is...but I'm blessed" to Tigger excitement. You have to change what you allow. Now she knows that when she talks to me she has to come correct.
So strong friends (which includes all of you because we are speaking that over our lives), what you need to do the next time Eeyore calls is breathe first, then counteract everything they say with something positive. It starts to become a game. It may piss them off but it'll catch on eventually or they will keep it moving with their invitations. Whatever you do, protect your own peace at all times. I give you permission to be selfish with it.
